PreviousDaron Malakian Surprises System of a Down Tribute Band by Joining Them Onstage in Chicago: WatchTool’s Adam Jones and Maynard James Keenan have offered a progress update on the band’s next album, the follow-up to 2019’s Fear Inoculum.During a recent appearance on the “Loudwire Nights” podcast, Jones and Keenan were asked about Tool’s plans for the next year, as the band has yet to book any concert dates for 2026.“I’ll probably bug those guys again about trying to turn that into a future Tool song,” Jones said. “I’ve got lots of riffs, we put them together, tear them apart and try to make something that we’re all into.” · Jones’ remarks echo those made by bassist Justin Chancellor earlier this year. At the time, Chancellor said that he and his bandmates would be dedicating “the next three months” to organizing their ideas in the studio — more than likely the “jamming” Jones was referring to — and that the band already had a “really good pile of stuff.”

We’ve now gone six years without a new Tool album, which means we’re halfway through as long as the 13 year gap between 10,000 Days and Fear Innoculum. To mark such a milestone, Tool’s very own Adam Jones and Maynard James Keenan have given an update on new material. In an exchange, Keenan admitted the band were “Writing, I guess”. You guys are busy, Adam?”While this all sounds well and good, this is Tool we’re talking about here. We didn’t hear rumblings of Fear Innoculum until at least 2013, and the band only confirmed Keenan was tracking vocals as early as 2017.At least this time around, the band have a head start. In a 2022 interview with Blabbermouth, drummer Danny Carey shared, “I’m sure it won’t take us this long for the next one. We even had some stuff left over from the last one that we’ll develop. We have head starts on three or four new songs.” That’s at least half a Tool album right there.Tool has shared that they've consistently been hosting writing sessions to prepare material for a new album.

Here's how to recreate the heavy and progressive tones of modern metal pioneers Tool for under £1500! Let's take a close look at his entire rig as well as the history of Tool's sound, album-by-album. ... The 1990s saw the emergence of several iconic bands, during a time when genres like heavy metal and alternative rock were more common in mainstream music.Compared to their earlier work, these albums are viewed as being more diverse with the band delving deeper into their spiritual side. With ambient sections in Parabol/Parabola and Right In Two, tracks like Jambi and Rosetta Stoned still deliver regular flashes of aggressive, distorted onslaught. The production on these albums is also far more polished, representative of the industry’s change to digital recording mediums in the early 2000s. Tool’s only guitarist is Adam Jones. One of the most distinctive and idiosyncratic bands that rose to fame during this period was Tool.Tool’s debut record Undertow (1993) features two of the band’s signature songs; Sober and Prison Sex.
If you’re just getting into alternative metal and art rock outfit Tool, the best place to start is with their debut 1993 studio album Undertow. From there, you can jump from album to album chronologically to get a real feel for how the band has evolved through the years.
To keep this particular list from being 10 billion pages long, we’re only going to focus on Tool’s five official studio albums. No EPs or live albums here! And please keep in mind that this list is simply a matter of opinion. Realistically, the band hasn’t released many songs that could be considered “the worst” in any respect. This classic song from Undertow was inspired by a friend of the band, who was struggling with substance abuse and couldn’t find it in them to be creative while sober. “Sober” is a simple song, but Maynard Keenan’s emotionally wrought vocals are unreal. “Disgustipated” is basically 15 minutes (and some change) of religious satirical lyrics and creepy ambiance. It’s certainly likable, but some fans don’t vibe with how drawn-out it is. “Ænima” is a major fan-favorite among Tool fans, and it makes sense why.The best and even the worst songs from each of Tool's five studio albums have strong listening power today. It’s tough to choose the best song and worst song from the 2001 Tool album Lateralus, namely because it’s packed with so much well-written material. However, we’re going with the title track as the best of this one. This song packs enough mathematical ecstasy into nine minutes and 24 seconds to last you a lifetime.

Tool has won four Grammy Awards, performed worldwide tours, and produced albums topping charts in several countries. The band has released five studio albums, one EP and one box set.Prior to its release, the band had sold more than 13 million albums in the US alone. Due to Tool's incorporation of visual arts and very long and complex releases, the band has been described as a style-transcending act and part of progressive rock, psychedelic rock, and art rock. The relationship between the band and the music industry is ambivalent, at times marked by censorship, and the band's insistence on privacy. During the 1980s, each of the future members of Tool moved to Los Angeles. Both Paul D'Amour and Adam Jones wanted to enter the film industry, while Maynard James Keenan, who had studied visual arts in Michigan, worked as a pet store remodeler. After Keenan played Jones a tape recording of his previous band project, Jones was so impressed by his voice that he eventually talked his friend into forming a new band. They started jamming together while searching for a drummer and a bass player. Carey happened to live above Keenan and was introduced to Jones by Tom Morello, an old high school friend of Jones and former member of Electric Sheep. Carey began playing in their sessions because he "felt kinda sorry for them", as other invited musicians were not showing up. Tool's lineup was completed when a friend of Jones introduced the members to bassist D'Amour.

Known for their intricate musicianship, thought-provoking lyrics, and stunning visual presentations, the band, consisting of Maynard James Keenan, Adam Jones, Justin Chancellor, and Danny Carey, has consistently pushed musical boundaries. While technically an EP, Opiate holds a significant place in Tool’s early history and often gets included in discussions of their full-length releases. It captures the raw energy and angst of a band still finding its footing but already displaying flashes of the brilliance to come.Tool’s first full-length album, Undertow, expanded on the promise of Opiate, delivering a heavier and more focused sound. Tracks like “Sober” and “Prison Sex” became early anthems, tackling themes of addiction and abuse with unflinching honesty. The album showcased the band’s growing musical maturity, with more dynamic song structures and the introduction of elements that hinted at their progressive future. The extended instrumental sections showcase the band’s unparalleled chemistry and technical prowess. While some fans initially found the album less immediate than their earlier work, Fear Inoculum has proven to be a grower, rewarding patient listening with a rich and complex sonic tapestry. Its exploration of new sonic territories demonstrates Tool’s continued willingness to evolve and challenge their audience.
